The Dorms have their own traditions that distinguish them from other dorms in the student body. I went around and got responses covering as many dorms as I possibly could to get the inside scope on how these dorms act as single units before Saturday's student body unification.
Alumni Dawgs, Green and White: Friday afternoon dance parties on South Quad Ryan Schwab Class of 2011 "Alumni's rep is to not do too much lol. But on Fridays of home football games, we do Quad Dancing. The seniors blast music from the windows and go outside with masks on their faces and wearing little-to-no clothing. The dances are mostly un-prepared, but a few of the songs are choreographed. Also, there are certain actions that are planned; for instance, if death touches you, you die. One of the best parts of Quad Dancing is the look on the faces of those visiting campus. I love seeing the uncomfortable expressions of a family of four as a 22 year old man skips around in a pair of too tight boxers with a Miley Cyrus song blaring through the windows. They have no idea what to think!

Breen-Phillips Babes,Blue and Pink Anonymous Student "Before pep rallies, Breen-Phillips throws themed parties in the basement of our dorm. The girls usually dress up in whatever theme is decided on and blow off some steam on a Friday before the student pep rally."
CarrollVermin, Scarlet and Gold Andrew Githens (Far Left), Class of 2011: "Carroll hall has many storied traditions for football gamedays. One popular tradition on friday afternoons is helping to hang up the huge Go Irish banner. This banner spreads across the dorm an can be seen from high above the campus. The banner is created using many many white bedsheets. -Another tradition involves signing up for the Carroll concession stand in order to raise money for dorm activities, such as section dinners..

Dillon Big Red, Red and Black Adam Carlson (Far Right), Class of 2010 "On Thursday night before the first home football game, Dillon puts together its own pep rally and holds in on south quad for the entire student body to attend. The pep rally is usually a huge hit and includes a wide variety of planned entertainment. The Dillon residents put together humorous skits to make the crowd laugh about things on campus and off. A handful of football players are selected to speak at the Dillon pep rally and they usually don't disappoint the audience."

Keough Kangeroos, Biscuit Lehmann (Mike), Class of 2010 ""In Keough, it was the responsibility of the freshmen to provide doughnuts for the upperclassmen each football weekend. It is a ritual of initiation that is passed down every year and allows students to enjoy doughnuts their last three years. The freshmen who provided the most doughnuts and best doughnuts were favored by the upperclassmen and this was very beneficial in other ways to the freshmen"
CJ Kaltenbach (Far Right), Class of 2010 ""At the beginning of each year, new Juggerknotts buy orange winter hats from the dorm. These hats are worn to the pep rallies and bring about a feeling of unity and welcome for the newcomers. Despite the fact that it may be 80 degrees, these wool hats are still proudly worn.Orange Hats and shirts are a sign of dorm pride, and when you see the neon orange you know thats a fellow Knott Brother, whether it be the In BroJo we trust shirts, or the Orange beanies all freshman receive during orientation, neon orange = Knott country."

McGlinn Shamrocks, Green and White Maureen Bauer, Class of 2010 "For the first pep rally of each season, all of the McGlinn girls make togas to wear. The togas are made green to represent our dorm color. They are unique in that most of the other dorms wear their dorm shirts and we feel that the toga helps us distinguish us more than simply a colored shirt. The toga making provides a bonding experience for the dorm and helps many of the freshmen feel like they are part of a new family. The girls make the togas with the other members of their section and then unite with the other sections to head to the pep rally representing McGlinn as a whole."
MorrisseyManor, Black and Yellow Andrew Rehagen Class of 2011 "For the first pep rally of the football season, we get together as a dorm for a picture before walking over to the JACC. Manorman always leads the march with the Morrissey flag held high as everyone else chants the Morrissey fight song. Manorman is always a hand selected sophomore who's dedicated to Morrissey and bringing energy to the dorm for campus events. Manorman is decked out in black spandex, a yellow cape, and a yellow mask to fit the dorm's colors and stand out to represent Morrissey.

This very early run includes a trip through the reflecting pool in front of the library. It was fun for the upperclassmen, and created a great memory later for the freshmen."
Ryan Wildcats, Turquoise and White Julia Berchtold 2013 "Well, Ryan is ND's newest female dorm, and because of that we're still in the process of forming new traditions. However, something that we as freshman decided to do in our section was to decorate our doors to celebrate the upcoming football season. One had a giant goal post with pictures of the players plastered all over it, one was converted into a giant football field, one had banners with all ND's opponents written on it on which they'd keep track of ND's wins and losses throughout the season. On our door we put up a life-size figure of an ND Marching band member and covered the wall next to it with the lyrics to the ND fight song. Door decorating got us excited for the upcoming season, and being able to come home and see that every day was a great feeling. I really hope that this tradition spreads throughout the dorm as Ryan continues to build tradition."
